Two revolutionaries in 1920 Delhi, one undercover in the British Imperial Police and one introduced fighting a tiger barehanded, become best friends without knowing who the other is. S. S. Rajamouli's RRR pairs N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan as Bheem and Raju, and it runs on slow motion, physics-optional set pieces and what Chris calls the ultimate bromance. The film spends its first stretch persuading you it belongs to Bheem, and the best twist is that it's Raju's story all along.
The Bollywood Cinema Club's Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, and Mike White (The Projection Booth) talk Mike's road into Indian cinema through Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy, Raju's crowd-fight introduction and its human-canopy shot, slow motion that never feels overused, two love interests the film forgets to build, separate credits for story and dialogue, and whether Rajamouli is bound for Hollywood.
