Nevada Congressman Steven Horsford emphasized the power of the gathering to inform and mobilize Black Americans across the nation with the November election just 45 days away. Pushing back against efforts to dismantle such caucuses, Horsford reflected on the CBC’s origins in 1971 and affirmed that its mission is to build community and advocate for policies that uplift not only Black America, but working-class and diverse communities nationwide. He also addressed the heightened security presence at the event, pointing to political tensions that have escalated since the January 6th Capitol attack as an unfortunate but necessary reality for public service and high-profile gatherings today.

Horsford stressed that voters want concrete solutions to economic burdens rather than partisan rhetoric, pointing to high housing costs, groceries, and healthcare alongside the local impact of federal tariff policies on Nevada's tourism economy. He highlighted the bipartisan Road to Housing Act as a critical step to counter out-of-state hedge funds pricing families out of homeownership. Looking forward, Horsford underscored the momentum of diverse, working-class coalitions in Nevada—exemplified by Attorney General Aaron Ford’s historic run for governor and the state’s key role in early presidential primaries—urging voters and young people to remain engaged and ensure their voices shape the future.
