In 2014, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire—which also featured elements from Pokémon Emerald—were remade from the 2002 role-playing video games Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire for the Game Boy Advance.
The video games belong to the sixth generation of the Pokémon video game franchise, which was developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company on the Nintendo 3DS. The games were first teased in May 2014 and were officially released on November 21, 2014, which is exactly twelve years after Ruby and Sapphire was first made available in North America, Australia, and Japan. The following week saw the release throughout Europe.
