Lorna Shore have always stretched the accepted boundaries of metal with each release.
By straddling the borders of melodic death metal, black metal and hardcore tendencies, Lorna Shore have found themselves in a league of their own musically.
After welcoming new vocalist Will Ramos on last years EP And I Return To Nothingness, Lorna Shore also found themselves in the unusual position of recognition. For years the underdogs, Lorna Shore quickly became a household name, with it changing not only public perception but also that from within the band.
Capitalising on the momentum generated by last years EP, Lorna Shore this Friday release their fourth full length album, Pain Remains, with Ramos joining HEAVY to discuss the album.
"I'm very excited," he beamed. "You listen to an album a jillion times and then you kind of start to lose a little excitement, but if it works out as the EP did, then hopefully it will continue to take off the way it has been."
The themes of creation of life and grief and vulnerability are being thrown around to describe Pain Remains, but HEAVY decided to get it straight from Ramos' mouth when it comes to the musical component of the album.
"I wanted to write a concept album, for sure," he affirmed. "I love stories, and I wanted to write a story that was almost like an adventure, or a trip. You read this, or you go through the whole thing and it's not just what you're hearing. It's more than that. I love to try and be philosophical, I like to write stories so I try to write an overarking ten song story about dreams and that kind of thing."
In the full interview Will talks more about the themes on Pain Remains, the singles released and how they paint an overall picture, the three part trilogy within the album structure and the importance of it, why Pain Remains is the hardest record Lorna Shore have had to make, being elevated to a recognised band from underdog status and adjusting to that, how he is settling into his role as vocalist and more."
