German metal band Orden Ogan are riding the crest of their recent album Final Days, a conceptually-based album with Science Fiction as its central theme.

The album follows on from 2017’s hugely popular release Gunman and further stakes the bands claims away from being solely a power metal band.

Vocalist Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann joined HEAVY for a chat earlier this week, with the early focus being on the musical nature of Final Days and Orden Ogan’s determination to break out of the power metal tag.

"We are widely referred to as being a power metal band but I think that everyone agrees that it really transcends the borders of being power metal. It's pretty modern for a power metal band, its also pretty hard for a power metal band so if you take away the choirs and vocal harmonies you've got a lot of very modern riffs going on underneath. We have got more fun songs as well but also I think compared to other power metal bands I think Orden Ogan is a very serious band and has a lot of melancholic tunes to it. It's pretty different. When you say power metal Orden Ogan would not be the first band that you have in mind (laughs). I think that the new record Final Days is probably our most diverse one, we've got the more progressive, longer tracks that we used to have in the past like something like "In The Dawn of the A.I", there's also a track called "Hollow" that might be the hardest song that we've written so far but you've also got those more pop-ish tunes like "Inferno" or basically 80's classic heavy metal tune like "Let The Fire Rain". There's a lot of awesome stuff on the record so I don't think it will get boring."

In the full interview Seeb talks more about the songs on Final Days, discusses the concept behind the album, goals the band had going into Final Days, producing his own band, the collaborations on the album and why those people were chosen, playing concept songs live and making them sound cohesive in a setlist and more.
