Hagar was rejected by Sarai, after obeying her instructions to sleep with her husband....and have a baby for them since Sarai grew tired of waiting on the promise child, Issaac. Reject is to dismiss as inadequate, inappropriate, or not to one's taste....and I find it interesting that Hagar was good enough to lay with Abraham and have his baby but after the baby was born, Sarai not only rejected Hagar, she betrayed and deceived her....and after her son was born; she had them kicked out of the house....which brings me to: Obeying When You Don't Understand... Genesis 16:1-9 (NIV) 1 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; 2 so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her." Abram agreed to what Sarai said. 3 So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. 4 He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.
