This story follows Amy, an overworked nurse who has become emotionally and physically drained from relentless shifts and isolation. Feeling disconnected from her own humanity and starved for intimacy, she becomes fixated on the idea of reclaiming a sense of feeling and control in her life. She rationalizes crossing professional boundaries and ultimately chooses a patient, Kyle, as a temporary, consequence-free outlet. After planning the encounter carefully, she acts on her impulse during a quiet night shift. The experience provides her with a brief but intense sense of relief and aliveness. Afterward, Amy returns to her routine, ensuring no one discovers what happened and distancing herself from the situation entirely. She reflects on the act not as love or even true desire, but as a moment of desperation—something that momentarily broke through her numbness and helped her endure the ongoing demands of her life.
