Números 10: Valora a los sabios a tu alrededor.

Números 10:29-36:
Entonces Moisés dijo a Hobab hijo de Reuel el madianita, su suegro: —Nosotros partimos hacia el lugar del cual el SEÑOR ha dicho: “Yo se lo daré”. Ven con nosotros, y te haremos bien; porque el SEÑOR ha prometido el bien para Israel.
Pero él respondió: —No iré, sino que me iré a mi tierra y a mi parentela.
Y Moisés le dijo: —Por favor, no nos abandones, ya que tú conoces el lugar donde debemos acampar en el desierto y nos servirás de ojos. Y será que, si vienes con nosotros, cuando logremos el bien que el SEÑOR nos ha de hacer, nosotros haremos el bien contigo.
Así partieron del monte del SEÑOR para tres días de camino. El arca del pacto del SEÑOR iba delante de ellos durante los tres días de camino, buscando para ellos un lugar donde descansar. La nube del SEÑOR estaba sobre ellos de día, cuando partían del campamento. Cuando el arca partía, Moisés decía: “¡Levántate, oh SEÑOR, y sean dispersados tus enemigos! ¡Huyan de tu presencia los que te aborrecen!”.
Y cuando se asentaba, decía: “¡Vuelve, oh SEÑOR, a las miríadas de millares de Israel!”.

La primera parte de este capítulo describe la forma en que el pueblo de Israel salió por primera vez desde que recibieron las tablas y celebraron la primera Pascua después de haber salido de Egipto. ¡Qué hermosa escena viendo el pueblo de Dios marchando ordenadamente!
Después miramos una escena muy conmovedora. Moisés le rogó a su suegro que lo acompañara en el viaje; él valoraba muchísimo a su suegro anciano por su gran sabiduría, conocimiento y experiencia, y lo necesitaba en el trayecto.
Y me atrevo a pensar que no era solamente eso, sino en agradecimiento por el consejo de administración que le dió para que Moisés no se agotara haciendo justicia entre el pueblo.
Puedes recordar esta enseñanza en este devocional de Éxodo 18.
Además, su esposa, que no era judía, no se sentiría tan sola teniendo a su padre cerca. Asumo que Moisés valoraba también el núcleo familiar y la importancia de tener gente de apoyo alrededor de él, sabiendo que estaba guiando a un pueblo testarudo y con inclinación a la rebeldía.
Valoremos a los sabios que nos rodean. Parientes que nos dan palabras y consejos sabios en momentos cruciales cuando debemos tomar decisiones; valorémoslos cuidándolos como Moisés prometió cuando llegaran a la tierra prometida, a cambio de su compañía y consejos.

Por último, aprendamos la importancia de alabar a Dios cada vez que el Señor nos va guiando en el camino. Moisés exaltaba a Dios con una expresión de alabanza cada vez que la nube se detenía y les indicaba acampar en ese lugar; y también adoraba con otra expresión de alabanza cuando la nube se levantaba para seguir caminando por el desierto.
Así debemos ser, siendo agradecidos cuando tengamos que detenernos y esperar en el Señor; y cuando seguimos adelante, glorificándolo en el camino por los desiertos y terrenos áridos, sabiendo que Él tiene el control y es Soberano, como lo estudiamos en la reflexión de ayer, de Números 9.

Numbers 10: Cherish the wise around you.

Numbers 10:29-36:
Now Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well; for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”
And he said to him, “I will not go, but I will depart to my own land and to my relatives.”
So Moses said, “Please do not leave, inasmuch as you know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And it shall be, if you go with us—indeed it shall be—that whatever good the Lord will do to us, the same we will do to you.”
So they departed from the mountain of the Lord on a journey of three days; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them for the three days’ journey, to search out a resting place for them. And the cloud of the Lord was above them by day when they went out from the camp.
So it was, whenever the ark set out, that Moses said: “Rise up, O Lord! Let Your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate You flee before You.”
And when it rested, he said: “Return, O Lord, o the many thousands of Israel.”

The first part of this chapter describes how the people of Israel went out for the first time since they received the tablets and celebrated the first Passover after leaving Egypt. What a beautiful scene seeing the people of God marching in order!
Then we see a very moving scene. Moses begged his father-in-law to accompany him on the journey; he highly valued his elderly father-in-law for his great wisdom, knowledge and experience, and he needed him along the way.
And I dare to think that it was not only that, but in gratitude for the advice about administration that he gave him so that Moses would not exhaust himself doing justice among the people.
You can remember this teaching in this Exodus 18 devotional.
Also, his wife, who was not Jewish, would not feel so lonely having her father around. I assume that Moses also valued the family nucleus and the importance of having supportive people around him, knowing that he was leading a stubborn and rebellious people.
Let's value the wise around us. Relatives who give us wise words and advice at crucial moments when we must make decisions; let us value them by taking care of them as Moses promised when they arrived at the promised land, in exchange for their company and advice.

Finally, let us learn the importance of praising God every time the Lord guides us along the way. Moses exalted God with an expression of praise every time the cloud stopped and told them to camp in that place; and he also worshiped with another expression of praise when the cloud rose to continue walking through the desert.
This is how we should be, being thankful when we have to stop and wait on the Lord; and as we go on, glorifying Him along the way through the deserts and arid lands, knowing that He is in control and He is Sovereign, as we studied in yesterday's reflection on Numbers 9.
