Salmos 51:1‭-‬19 RVA2015:
Ten piedad de mí, oh Dios, conforme a tu misericordia. Por tu abundante compasión borra mis rebeliones. Lávame más y más de mi maldad, y límpiame de mi pecado. Porque yo reconozco mis rebeliones, y mi pecado está siempre delante de mí. Contra ti, contra ti solo he pecado y he hecho lo malo ante tus ojos. Seas tú reconocido justo en tu palabra y tenido por puro en tu juicio. He aquí, en maldad he nacido, y en pecado me concibió mi madre. He aquí, tú quieres la verdad en lo íntimo, y en lo secreto me has hecho comprender sabiduría. Quita mi pecado con hisopo, y seré limpio; lávame, y seré más blanco que la nieve. Hazme oír gozo y alegría, y se regocijarán estos huesos que has quebrantado. Esconde tu rostro de mis pecados y borra todas mis maldades.
Crea en mí, oh Dios, un corazón puro y renueva un espíritu firme dentro de mí. No me eches de tu presencia ni quites de mí tu Santo Espíritu. Devuélveme el gozo de tu salvación, y un espíritu generoso me sustente. Entonces enseñaré a los transgresores tus caminos, y los pecadores se convertirán a ti. Líbrame de homicidios, oh Dios, Dios de mi salvación, y con regocijo cantará mi lengua tu justicia. Señor, abre mis labios, y proclamará mi boca tu alabanza. Porque no quieres sacrificio; y si doy holocausto, no lo aceptas.
Los sacrificios de Dios son el espíritu quebrantado. Al corazón contrito y humillado no desprecias tú, oh Dios. Haz bien a Sion con tu benevolencia; edifica los muros de Jerusalén. Entonces te agradarán los sacrificios de justicia, el holocausto o la ofrenda del todo quemada. Entonces se ofrecerán becerros sobre tu altar.

Este es uno de los salmos más conocidos. También es uno de los salmos más conmovedores por la profundidad de las palabras del rey David, expresando su total humillación y dolor por haber pecado. Este salmo lo escribió después de haber sido confrontado por el profeta Natán y haber reconocido su gran falta ante Dios cuando pecó con Betsabé.

En este salmo podemos ver la actitud correcta cuando uno está arrepentido. Muchas veces reconocemos nuestra falta pero buscamos inmediatamente a quién culpar. En este caso, miramos a David asumiendo toda responsabilidad por sus actos. Esa es una señal de un arrepentimiento genuino. También reconoce que es una persona débil con tendencia a fallar.
Cuando una persona no está arrepentida por las acciones que haya cometido, toma una actitud de negación, tratando de hacerle creer a las personas que nada grave ha pasado. El “victimario” minimiza el daño y quiere convencer que todo es una exageración cuando es expuesto el daño y el pecado que ha cometido; y no reconoce el daño que le ha hecho a las personas que están a su alrededor, directamente a la víctima e indirectamente a los que lo rodean, a su prójimo.
En cambio, David aceptó lo que hizo y estaba dispuesto a aceptar la corrección y el juicio de Dios.
Tanto es el dolor que sintió David por las consecuencias de su falta, que sentía que su alma desfallecía; no era feliz y no podía disfrutar la vida. Ese es uno de los efectos del pecado. David le rogó al Señor que quisiera volver a experimentar esa alegría que se siente cuando uno tiene la conciencia limpia y volver a sentir esa libertad que uno disfruta cuando está en buenos términos con el Señor.
David tenía una relación muy bonita con el Señor pero, ese día, David sabía que se había alejado de Dios.
Esta posición de humillación y sinceridad lo lleva al punto de pedirle al Señor algo que todos debemos pedirle y es que nos dé un corazón limpio y que renueve nuestro espíritu, transformándolo a uno que busque la rectitud.
El Señor Jesús nos enseñó que todos los males que el hombre comete salen de su corazón. La Palabra de Dios nos dice que engañoso es el corazón del hombre. El corazón es el lugar donde todos nuestros deseos comienzan a planearse para que se hagan realidad, sean buenos o sean malos. David reconoció esto y por eso le pidió al Señor que le diera un nuevo corazón; un corazón que no tuviera deseos de hacerle mal a nadie y que no quebranta los mandamientos de Dios, que las intenciones de su ser interior no sean para mal sino para bien.
Al final de sus días, David se convirtió en un hombre ejemplar. Dios lo perdonó y le dio a David uno de los títulos más conmovedores y honoríficos delante de Dios: “un hombre conforme al corazón de Dios”.
Con esto podemos entender que Dios sí le dio un nuevo corazón, un nuevo espíritu; y David ya no proseguía sus deseos sino el deseo del corazón de Dios.
Cuando dejamos de enfocarnos en nuestros propios deseos, y más bien dejamos que nuestras vidas estén al servicio de los deseos de Dios, vamos a ser prósperos en todas las áreas de nuestras vidas, especialmente en nuestra área espiritual. Si nuestra relación con Dios es saludable, también las demás áreas personales como las emociones tendrán un balance saludable.

Espero que este salmo nos inspire a vivir vidas sinceras, transparentes y honestas delante del Señor.

November 5: Cry of true repentance.

Psalms 51:1-17
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned,
and done this evil in Your sight— that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You. Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart— these, O God, You will not despise.


This is one of the best known psalms. It is also one of the most moving psalms for the depth of King David's words, expressing his utter humiliation and pain for having sinned. This psalm was written after being confronted by the prophet Nathan and having recognized his great fault before God when he sinned with Bathsheba.

In this psalm we can see the correct attitude when one is repentant. Many times we acknowledge our fault but immediately look for someone to blame. In this case, we look at David assuming all responsibility for his actions. That is a sign of genuine repentance. He also recognizes that he is a weak person with a tendency to fail.
When a person is not sorry for the actions he has committed, he takes an attitude of denial, trying to make people believe that nothing serious has happened. The "perpetrator" minimizes the damage and wants to convince that everything is an exaggeration when it's exposed the damage and the sin he has committed; and does not recognize the damage he has done to the people around him, directly to the victim and indirectly to those around him, to his neighbor.
Instead, David accepted what he did and was willing to accept God's correction and judgment.
So much is the pain that David felt for the consequences of his fault, that he felt his soul faint; he was not happy and could not enjoy life. That is one of the effects of sin. David begged the Lord to want to re-experience that joy that comes from having a clear conscience and to feel again that freedom that one enjoys when on good terms with the Lord.
David had a very beautiful relationship with the Lord, but that day David knew that he had turned away from God.

This position of humiliation and sincerity leads him to the point of asking the Lord for something that we must all ask of Him and that is that He gives us a clean heart and that He renews our spirit, transforming it into one that seeks righteousness.
The Lord Jesus taught us that all the evils that man commits come from his heart. God's Word tells us how deceitful is the heart of man. The heart is the place where all our wishes begin to be planned to come true, good or bad. David recognized this and that is why he asked the Lord to give him a new heart; a heart that has no desire to harm anyone and does not break God's commandments, that the intentions of his inner being are not for evil but for well.
At the end of his days, David became an exemplary man. God forgave him and gave David one of the most touching and honorific titles before God: "a man after God's own heart."
With this we can understand that God did give him a new heart, a new spirit; and David no longer pursued his desires but the desire of God's heart.
When we stop focusing on our own desires, and rather let our lives be at the service of God's desires, we will be prosperous in all areas of our lives, especially in our spiritual area. If our relationship with God is healthy, other personal areas such as emotions will also have a healthy balance.

I hope this psalm inspires us to live sincere, transparent and honest lives before the Lord.
