Never Closes, Never Forget & A Savage Ode to Baseball

The show kicks off with big news that instantly sparks emotion: Katz’s Delicatessen is officially coming back after 14 years away. 🥪 From late-night pastrami runs to “never closes” memories, JB, Sandy, and Tricia reminisce about what made Katz’s iconic—and why its return to the original West 6th Street location feels like reclaiming a piece of Austin’s soul. One memorable line says it all: “Say what you want—Mark Katz made that place.” 💛

Then things take a turn from heartwarming to hilariously heartbreaking. JB shares the tragic tale of his favorite childhood kite—a 25-foot rainbow silk beauty he cherished for decades… until it mysteriously vanished thanks to minimalist tendencies at home. 😭🪁 Sandy’s reaction? Equal parts empathy and laughter. Listener warning: this story will make you want to hug your nostalgia.

Need a pro tip? JB delivers his legendary Zilker Kite Festival hack—how to score free kites the day after the festival. 🪜🌬️ It’s absurd, brilliant, and peak Austin energy.

Sandy unveils his lightning-fast “Ode to Baseball”, written in a single song and performed with dramatic flair. Tight pants, overpriced hot dogs, cold beer, and a final line that brought the studio to its feet:
“It is April the 8th… and OU still sucks.” ⚾😈

The episode wraps with listener shout-outs, more Austin restaurant nostalgia (yes, Shady Grove fans—listen closely), a heads-up about a sneaky gas station scam 🚨⛽, and a candid, funny behind-the-scenes moment as Tricia opens up about life on the podcast “struggle bus.”
