In Hinduism, it is believed that after death, the soul goes through a journey and its next destination depends on its karma. If a person did not follow dharma (righteousness) and committed sins in their lifetime, they may go to Naraka, which is believed to be a place of punishment and suffering before the soul's reincarnation.

It is believed that the punishments in Naraka could be eternal and excruciating. The nature of punishment depends on the type and severity of sins committed in previous life. The punishments in Naraka may include being burnt alive, being dissected, being forced to eat feces, being given tormenting thirst to suffer from or being tossed from great heights repeatedly.

However, it is also believed that one can avoid Naraka by leading a virtuous life and following dharma. The ultimate goal of an individual in Hinduism is to achieve moksha, which means liberation from the cycle of birth and death, and to attain union with the divine.
