In 1988, Brenda Schaefer disappeared after meeting with her ex-boyfriend, Mel Ignatow. Investigators were convinced Mel had killed her—but when the case finally reached a courtroom, he walked away a free man. Then, months after his acquittal, workers inside Mel’s former home uncovered something hidden beneath the floorboards: photographs proving exactly what had happened to Brenda—and who was responsible. The evidence was horrifying. The timing was unbelievable. And because of double jeopardy, Mel Ignatow couldn’t be tried for her murder again, even after admitting he did it.This is the infuriating story of a carefully planned murder, a disastrous trial, and one of the most jaw-dropping twists in American true crime history.
