At age 19 he joined the United States Army and served 3 tours in Afghanistan after being shot he was medically discharged. He then joined Winona state university utilizing the G.I. bill and gained a master's in computer science and a bachelor's in criminal justice from UMKC and a paramedic certificate from UMKC.
