Levítico 12: Jesús, bajo la ley para darnos libertad

Levítico 12:6‭-‬8 RVA2015:
“Cuando se cumplan los días de su purificación, por un hijo o por una hija, llevará al sacerdote un cordero de un año para el holocausto, y un pichón de paloma o una tórtola para el sacrificio por el pecado. Los traerá a la entrada del tabernáculo de reunión. El sacerdote los ofrecerá delante del SEÑOR y hará expiación por ella. Así quedará purificada de su flujo de sangre. Esta es la ley para la que da a luz, sea un hijo o una hija. Pero si no tiene lo suficiente para un cordero, traerá dos tórtolas o dos pichones de paloma, el uno para el holocausto y el otro para el sacrificio por el pecado. El sacerdote hará expiación por ella, y quedará purificada”.

Este capítulo corto describe el proceso de purificación cuando los padres tienen un hijo. En el ritual de purificación, la madre tiene que apartarse por varios días.
Si miramos más allá del proceso de purificación, podemos ver que este era un tiempo donde la madre no debía estar en contacto con mucha gente y esto le ayudaba a su cuerpo a recuperarse del proceso del parto. Al no permitirle hacer muchas cosas por su condición de impureza, la madre podría dedicarse más a su bebé, sin tener la obligación de realizar otras tareas y así tendría mas privacidad para pasar más tiempo con su bebé.
Hoy en día, en muchas culturas se practica un proceso parecido, la madre toma más o menos de 30 a 40 días para recuperarse, siendo atendida por sus parientes que le preparan ciertos alimentos especiales para su recuperación, y muchas no salen frecuentemente de sus casas hasta después del tiempo destinado para seguir con sus deberes o su rutina diaria.
Este pasaje de Lucas 2:21-24 nos explica el proceso que tuvo que pasar María cuando tuvo a Jesús, leamos: “Cuando se cumplieron los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre Jesús, nombre que le fue puesto por el ángel antes que él fuera concebido en el vientre. Cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos conforme a la Ley de Moisés, llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor (así como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abre la matriz será llamado santo al Señor) y para dar la ofrenda conforme a lo dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas o dos pichones de paloma.”

Aquí podemos mirar que José y María no eran de alta posición económica, pues para cumplir el ritual de purificación, usualmente, se debía traer un cordero y una paloma para sacrificio, pero estaba la opción de traer 2 palomas para los que no tuvieran muchos recursos económicos.
Es curioso pensar que el Rey del universo, el Dueño de los cielos, la tierra, todo lo que hay en ella, decidió nacer en esta familia humilde para que todos puedan identificarse con Jesús, que el Dios Todopoderoso vino al mundo en forma humana y tuvo que someterse a la ley, fue circuncidado conforme a la ley, que sus padres tuvieron que pasar por el proceso de purificación, y muchos otros rituales bajo la ley.
Todo esto fue para que Él tuviera toda autoridad para llevarnos a la nueva ley, la de Cristo, la de la libertad, la de la gracia de Dios y así poder ser adoptados como hijos de Dios.
Gálatas 4:4-5 dice: “Sin embargo, cuando se cumplió el tiempo establecido, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de una mujer y sujeto a la ley. Dios lo envió para que comprara la libertad de los que éramos esclavos de la ley, a fin de poder adoptarnos como sus propios hijos;...” (Versión: NTV).

Así que, gracias a Dios que vino como uno de nosotros, y se sometió a toda la rigidez de la antigua ley, para poder adoptarnos como hijos del Dios Viviente.

Disfrutemos y valoremos esta salvación tan grande que podemos disfrutar junto con nuestras familias.

Leviticus 12: Jesus, under the law to give us freedom

Leviticus 12:6-8:
‘When the days of her purification are fulfilled, whether for a son or a daughter, she shall bring to the priest a lamb of the first year as a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove as a sin offering, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Then he shall offer it before the Lord, and make atonement for her. And she shall be clean from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who has borne a male or a female.
‘And if she is not able to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’ ”

This short chapter describes the purification process when parents have a child. In the purification ritual, the mother has to go away for several days.
If we look beyond the purification process, we can see that this was a time when the mother was not to be in contact with many people and this helped her body to recover from the birthing process. By not allowing her to do many things due to her impure condition, the mother could dedicate herself more to her baby, without having to perform other tasks and thus have more privacy to spend more time with her baby.
Nowadays, in many cultures a similar process is practiced, the mother takes more or less 30 to 40 days to recover, being cared for by her relatives who prepare certain special foods for her recovery, and many do not leave their homes frequently until after the time set aside to continue with their duties or their daily routine.
This passage from Luke 2:21-24 explains the process that Mary had to go through when she had Jesus, let us read: “And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

Here we can see that Joseph and Mary were not of high economic position, because to complete the purification ritual, usually, a lamb and a dove had to be brought for sacrifice, but there was the option of bringing 2 doves for those who did not have many financial resources.
It is curious to think that the King of the universe, the Owner of the heavens, the earth, everything in it, decided to be born in this humble family so that everyone can identify with Jesus, that the Almighty God came into the world in the human form and had to submit to the law, He was circumcised according to the law, that His parents had to go through the purification process, and many other rituals under the law.
All this was so that He would have all the authority to lead us to the new law, that of Christ, that of freedom, that of God's grace and thus be able to be adopted as children of God.
Galatians 4:4-5 says: “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.” (Version: NLT).

So thank God that He came as one of us, and submitted to all the rigidity of the old law, so that He could adopt us as children of the Living God.

Let us enjoy and value this great salvation that we can enjoy together with our families.
