The weather has cooled down significantly, which is improving the bite. The water temperature is around 75 degrees, and the lake level is slightly below pool. The water is stained but still clear enough to spot fish activity.
### Sunrise and Sunset
Sunrise today is at about 7:30 AM, and sunset will be around 6:00 PM. These times are crucial for planning your fishing trips, especially for the early morning topwater bite.
### Fish Activity
Striped bass are one of the highlights right now. They are active on the flats in 30 feet of water or deeper, and live bait on ledges in 25-40 feet of water near river channels and creeks is producing excellent results. The topwater bite is starting to fire up in the shallows, especially with the cooler mornings.
Largemouth bass are picking up, particularly with Alabama rigs and paddle tails near docks and down the bluffs throughout the morning. Soft plastics and hard baits are working well on main lake points and in the backs of cuts midday.
Crappie fishing is still a bit slower due to the warm temperatures, but they can be found around brush and structure in 12-18 feet of water near points and off the creek ledges. Jigs and minnows are the best options here.
Catfish are active and can be caught on chicken liver, cut bait, dough bait, PowerBait, punch bait, and stinkbait around coves, docks, main lake, points, and river mouth. Blue and channel catfish are particularly good on cut shad and prepared baits near humps in 15-20 feet of water and ledges in 30-50 feet of water.
### Best Lures and Bait
For striped bass, live shad and topwater lures are the way to go. Slabs and live bait along ledges are also highly effective. For largemouth bass, Alabama rigs with paddle tails, soft plastics, and hard baits are working well. Crappie are biting on jigs and minnows around brush piles. Catfish are responding well to cut shad, chicken liver, and various prepared baits.
### Hot Spots
One of the hot spots is around the river channels and creek ledges, where striped bass are feeding heavily on live bait. Another good spot is near the main lake points and the backs of cuts, where largemouth bass are active. For crappie, focus on brush piles and structure in 12-18 feet of water. Catfish can be found near coves, docks, and river mouths.
Overall, Lake Texoma is in great shape for fishing right now, with a variety of species active and responding well to different lures and baits. Make sure to check the local regulations and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of invasive species.
