Annika ’s voice has coursed through popular culture as a writer and as a vocalist. She has notably penned tracks for The Jonas Brothers , PRETTYMUCH , BTS , and Steve Aoki , to name a few. Additionally, her vocals powered “Nightlight” by Illenium and “Run It” by Midnight Kids , which both captured #1 at Dance Radio. On “Fuck Being Sober,” her voice coasts above palm-muted acoustic guitar as she urges, “So, pour me another, one for my brother, and two for my parents, I know they can’t stand this . ” In between thanking day-one friends, the song affirms her pledge to skip a 9-to-5 ( “That shit is so boring!” ), live out her dream, and recognize “We die, then it’s over, so fuck being sober . ”

For as intoxicating as the melody may be, it also sends an encouraging message to seize the day and live life to the fullest. Doubling as her mission statement, it’s meant to uplift. About the song’s inspiration, she recalls, “I was with my extended family when my aunt said, ‘I know you’re doing this music thing for fun, but when are you going to get a real job and start taking your life seriously?’ When I got back to L.A., I thought, ‘Fuck the nine-to-five idea of what we’re supposed to do with our lives’ . I hate that! I took this angsty energy and made a song about having fun with my friends and going against the status quo.” In the accompanying D.I.Y. video, she and her two besties launch a historic rager, causing mayhem in a local grocery store, throwing plates off a roof, drinking way too much, nearly running out of duct tape, and living out the kind of idyllic night everyone should at least once in a lifetime. Watch it HERE . “Fuck Being Sober” introduces Annika as an unapologetic, unfiltered, and undeniable new voice for pop. Get ready for a whole lot more soon.

ABOUT ANNIKA WELLS: Most people keep personal, embarrassing, and crazy thoughts to themselves. Annika Wells isn’t one of those people. She doesn’t just express these thoughts out loud either. She peppers them throughout her songs with the kind of honesty you expect from your childhood best friend. In her music, she’ll rattle off bucket list ambitions, refer to herself phallically, or write about a doomed romance (with that same ex as her cowriter) . After watching her older brother play piano, she started taking classical lessons at the age of four, and eventually ended up at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Before dropping out, she linked up with producer Giulio Cercato and wrote and recorded what would become her first single “Break” in 2016. It caught fire around the world, catapulted onto the Spotify Global Viral Chart, and eventually eclipsed 15 million Spotify streams. She wrote and featured on “Crawl Outta Love” for Illenium , amassing 58 million Spotify streams, reaching the Top 30 on the Billboard Hot/Dance Electronic Songs Chart, and notching the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) Grand Prize. Between performing in sold out arenas across the country with Illenium throughout 2019, she landed a string of major placements as a writer for The Jonas Brothers , PRETTYMUCH , BTS , and Steve Aoki . After racking up over half a billion-plus streams, she welcomes everyone into her mind and heart on a series of 2021 singles and her forthcoming debut for Vol. 1 / Epic Records led by the single “Fuck Being Sober . ”
