eff Hirsch is Editor-in-Chief of The Stock Trader’s Almanac. In this interview, the long-time researcher of stock market seasonals and historical trends explains why the “Worst Months” are striking again on Wall Street, and how the action in 2023 is following the typical annual pattern. Hirsch warned of exactly this occurring recently, explaining that stocks would likely go on “summer vacation” in August and September – and advised investors to be less aggressive as a result. The good news? It’s still a pre-election year, and Jeff believes his forecast of a “plus 15%-20%” advance for stocks is still on target. He also thinks the Federal Reserve is just about finished hiking interest rates (if not done already). Plus, he says the economic backdrop isn’t too bad, the market pullback is fixing the frothy sentiment problem, and the political cycle is favorable for stocks in the fourth quarter and potentially beyond.
