Overall, we found that the average vitamin D level of the COVID-19-positive group was lower than the COVID-19-negative group. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S120197122032600X

It can control our immune function at different levels:
1. increasing the phagocytic ability of immune cells. This is the process whereby a white blood cell completely engulfs a virus so that it becomes trapped inside. like Pac-Man, where Pac-Man makes his way through a maze, engulfing all the dots that lay before him.
2. Reinforcing the epithelial barrier function, particularly of our eyes and intestinal tract. The epithelial barrier function comprises individual epithelial cells lining the eyes and intestinal tract. It is comparable to an army of individual soldiers. Supports the barrier function in the intestines.
3. Vit. D is like an instruction manual for the microbiome regarding immune system modulation. Bacteria are more efficient with enough vitamin D present.
4. Tem: So basically vitamin d turns people into happy campers?
Vit D. upregulates CAMP (cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide)
— increases the antimicrobial activity of some white blood cells,
— has direct antimicrobial properties itself against many pathogens, fungi, parasites, and enveloped viruses (SARS-CoV-2).
— Camp resides in the epithelial barrier, including in lung cells.
5. Upregulates defensin, which together with CAMP:
— decrease the ability of a virus to replicate
— reduce the pro-inflammatory cytokines
