The Summer Olympics in Paris have officially closed. While we are sad that the games are over, we cherish the lasting memories made by athletes accomplishing extraordinary feats on the world’s biggest stage. In four years, the United States will have their turn to showcase the world’s best athletes. With Paris handing over the Olympic games to Los Angeles the pressure is now on for the United States to deliver. While Los Angeles will have their chance to shine in four years, let’s continue to celebrate the Olympic spirit that Paris exhibited with a glass of champagne. The sparkling wine originated and is produced in the Champagne wine region of France. The production process requires specific vineyard practices, sourcing of grapes exclusively from designated places within it, specific grape-pressing methods and secondary fermentation of the wine in the bottle to cause carbonation. Champagne provides many health benefits such as improving spatial memory. Spatial memory is the ability to recognize surroundings, perform tasks and calculations. In addition, studies have also shown that a few glasses of champagne a week can ward off dementia. Champagne is low in calories and keeps your heart healthy as it contains an antioxidant called resveratrol which prevents damage to your blood vessels, reduces bad cholesterol, prevents blood clots, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the risk of heart problems and strokes. The sparkling bubbly contains antioxidants called polyphenols that can improve skin health. Its tartaric acid may help even out skin tone, and its antibacterial properties can help with breakouts, oily skin, reduce skin inflammation, and redness. So, let’s have a toast with an amazing glass of champagne to cap off the Olympic experience in Paris.
