Father's Day Sunday we are still in a series on the Ten Commandments and we will look at #5B “Honor your father (and mother). Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you." Exodus 20:12. God gives fathers the opportunity to live WELL. When they pursue worshipping, encouraging, learning and loving, wives are delighted, children are blessed, and society benefits. We are taking this Sunday to look at God's design for godly fathers. How Dads can do WELL#1 Dads are Designed to Worshipa. Dad chooses to worship God like Joshua (Joshua 24:14-15)b. Dad worships by serving Christ through lifestyle worship (Philip. 3:10)c. Dad’s worship by trusting in God’s ways (2 Timothy 1:12)d. Dad’s worship brings God’s guidance and protection (Psalm 32:8)
#2 Dads are Designed to Encouragea. Dad encourages others to worship (Rom. 1:16, Ps. 91:9,14)b. Dad encourages strength and reliance (Philippians 4:13, 19)c. Dad encourages Godly living (Proverbs 23:22-24)d. Dad encourages pursuing God’s will (Exodus 20:5-6, Ps 25:5)e. Dad can be discouraging (Col. 3:21, Eph. 6:4)
#3 Dads are Designed to Learn a. Dad keeps learning how to live as a godly man (2 Peter 3:18)b. Dad learns to show compassion (Psalm 103.13)c. Dad learns to discipline (Proverbs 29:17, Hebrews 12:7)d. Children learn from Dad’s example:
Sons that Followed Dad’s ExampleAsa did right in God's sight (2 Chron. 14:2) Jehoshaphat walked in his father's ways (2 Chron. 20:32)Ahaziah did evil like his father Ahab (2 Chron. 22:4)Abijah followed his father's example (1 Kings 15:1-3)Amaziah did right in God's sight, but not wholeheartedly (2 Chron. 25:2) Uzziah followed his father's steps (2 Chron. 26:4)
#4 Dads are Designed to Lovea. Dads, love is spelled “T-I-M-E” (Deut. 6:5-7)b. Dad’s love provides (Matthew 7:8, 11)c. Loved and adopted by our Heavenly Father (Galatians 4:5-6)d. Loved and affirmed as God’s child (Romans 8:15-16)e. Love can forgive imperfect Dads (Colossians 3:13)
Remembering a Father that did WELL
"F" is for the Fun we've had together."A" is for his Anxious care for me."T" is for his Tender consolation."H" is for our Home he made dear to me."E" is for the Earnest counsel he gave me."R" is for the Right in him I see.
