mostra di piùOn January 22, 2022 at approximately 1:38 PM, Deputy Somerville with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to report of a motor vehicle accident involving a Nissan minivan on W California Avenue in Beach Park, Illinois. He arrived on scene and made contact with a 26-year-old female, who was identified as Tayler. He also made contact with a male who claimed to be Tayler’s boyfriend. Tayler admitted to being the driver of the vehicle that had struck a tree before sustaining severe front-end damages along with airbag deployment.
Deputy Nakanishi arrived on scene shortly afterwards to assist. As Deputy Somerville was speaking with Tayler, he observed indicators of impairment. When he asked her if she had consumed alcohol, Tayler admitted to consuming vodka before operating a motor vehicle. Based on his suspicion of impairment, the Deputy offered Tayler an opportunity to participate in field sobriety exercises.
The first exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Tayler did not touch heel-to-toe on each step and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Tayler failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and displayed a lack of balance.
Following the field sobriety exercises, Deputy Somerville offered Tayler an opportunity to take a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), but she refused. Based on the motor vehicle accident, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Deputy Somerville placed Tayler under arrest for driving under the influence. After she was handcuffed, Tayler was placed in Deputy Nakanishi’s patrol car.
Tayler sat inside the vehicle for a while as the Deputies completed some paperwork. After the Warning to Motorist form was read to her, Tayler refused to submit breath samples for testing. Instead of transporting her to the station for processing, they decided to release Tayler to her father pending a future court appearance after he arrived on scene.
Tayler was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)), failure to reduce speed (625 ILCS 5/11-601(a)), operating an uninsured motor vehicle (625 ILCS 5/3-707(a)), and failure to give notice of crash (625 ILCS 5/11-407(a)). Court records indicate that Tayler’s case was disposed of in court on January 25, 2023, and she was fined a total of $1,883.50 and ordered to pay a total of $100 in restitution.
