I recently was made aware of an older member's decades long sexual sin that included at least one incident with a minor. I followed the Matthew 18 pattern of confronting him which included the revelation of this in a men's business meeting since we do not have elders. The majority saw the importance of purging the leaven after repeated attempts asking for repentance and pushing for biblical based counseling were skewed and rebuffed. Godly remorse was never demonstrating by this abuser. We still had those who had known him the longest deny, make excuses, victim shame, become angry, etc. In the end we had to mark such a one. The minor abuse was many years prior and charges were never brought so it is difficult to press that matter. He has tried to run to a couple of area congregations and to their credit, contacted us, and denied his membership with them. We are still working on the hearts of those defending such behavior based on the abuser's lip service to the Lord. We have an obligation to help snatch a person from the fire but just as important is protecting the flock. Your podcast is a great tool for those of us trying to walk through the muck of hidden sin.
