mostra di piùFirst, we discuss WeWork's purchase of Meetup. How does this acquisition change WeWork's strategy? Can WeWork integrate Meetup and produce enhanced capabilities that will help them drive train and staff virtual workers? Second, Airbnb tests split payments which allow users to group source an Airbnb stay. According to Airbnb 38% of people who travel in a group experience a loss associated with individual who do not refund their friends at the end of the trip. 18% of this group experiences losses as great as $10,000. Split payments could signal a significant shift in Airbnb's business. I speculate that Airbnb could use blockchain to launch a real estate business where gig workers can purchase a portion of a house (bedroom) and access to the public spaces and trade those contracts to other gig workers. Third, we examine Carmine, a car sharing service that launched in Morocco. Carmine issues a safety score to its drivers as gives the most opportunities to the safest drivers. Can Carmine disrupt the market? Is this value proposition transferrable to other markets? Fourth, ECrent has created a Gig Economy supermarket. Are consumers ready for "one-stop-shopping" of their gig services? Fifth, UGottaEat, a competitor to the Chinese communal kitchen startup, HomeCook, has launched in Cleveland, Ohio. UGottaEat helps chefs and cooks build a social network to which they can sell their home cooked meals. Can this strategy scale while also escaping the regulatory issues? Six, Sun Exchange uses blockchain to crowd sale solar panels to create a solar energy cooperative in rural Africa. Investors buy individual solar cells and Sun Exchange leases the solar panels to school and local businesses. Investors are paid in local currency or Bit-Coin. Seventh, Southeast Asian startup GoJek has launched a motorbike ride hailing service that lets users immediately start delivering packages after they rent the motorbikes. Users can build up credits for performing these services and use the credits to pay their utility bills. Finally, we discuss the use of facial recognition locks in China and their use in the home sharing market. In China, hotels and home sharing services are required to confirm a guest's identity before they can check-in. Xiaozhu, a Chinese home sharing startup, has partnered with Ant Financial, to integrate facial recognition door locks as a way to meet the government identity verification requirement. The Chinese security requirement has create a gig economy standard that is now driving innovation in other markets.
