Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one's own death. It means ending your own life. It is believed to be a way for people to escape pain or suffering. Mental disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse—including alcoholism and the use of psychoactive drugs —are risk factors. Some suicides are impulsive acts due to stress, such as from financial difficulties, relationship problems such as breakups, or bullying.
Suicide is a desperate attempt to escape suffering that has become unbearable. To those who are not in the grips of suicidal depression and despair, it’s difficult to understand what drives millions of individuals to take their own life every year. Blinded by feelings of self-loathing, hopelessness, and isolation, a suicidal person can’t see any way of finding relief except through death.
