You may not know who John Smith is, but what happened to him could happen to you. John was a banker in Texas who was caught up in the notorious Savings and Loan Scandal of the late 80s. He was falsely accused, prosecuted and convicted for crimes he did not commit. Still, when he was found not guilty of any of the crimes he was charged with, Smith could have tipped his hat and waved and left the scene. Instead, he stood up and confronted the people who landed him in trouble and became a prime witness in the cases against the true perpetrators, who were extremely powerful banking leaders.

When others would have walked away, he stood up. Smith, who earned a presidential pardon, tells his story in his book, EMBRACING THE ABYSS, and talks with host Lt. Col. (Ret) Tony Shaffer on Thought to Action.

Lt. Col. Shaffer is not stranger to fighting battles against the powerful and being wrongly prosecuted. Shaffer and Smith discuss integrity and the importance of holding governments and powerful institutions accountable.

John Smith tells his story as a CPA insider who was not part of the conspiracy and fraud, but nevertheless included in the government’s $540 million dollar lawsuit as well as multiple criminal charges filed against the S&L’s top officers. During the onslaught of legal actions, John came to realize the extent of wrongdoing that had occurred, learning that he too had been one of the many deceived by the Chairman and the CEO.
