Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger started the YRF Spy Universe, though nothing in it suggests a franchise was coming. Salman Khan plays Tiger, a RAW agent sent to Dublin to shadow a scientist, and Katrina Kaif is the woman he falls for, who turns out to be working for the other side. Coming to it after Pathaan, the question is what Tiger's own story adds, and whether a Salman-Katrina romance can carry a film that turns into a Bourne picture halfway through.
The Bollywood Cinema Club's Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, and Dustin Rutledge (Scary Stories We Tell) talk India and Pakistan against a common enemy, Salman and Katrina's chemistry next to SRK and Deepika's, the cut-away fake-out at the midpoint, location shooting from Dublin to Havana and Istanbul, real stunt work over green screen, and why American audiences should envy a connected universe that actually connects.
