Because I make myself available to speak in public that's a free ticket for hecklers to stand up and try to take you down. Knowing how to act and react is what keeps things moving in forward motion as well as emotion. What so many don't see is how the hecklers moment continues to live on beyond the physical action and reaction. Learning how to grow beyond it after the lights and cameras have been turned off is just as challenging and you've got to be able to remain strong during those bouts with an inner self that would've rather stayed home and ate food from a can. We all have a voice and we all have the right to exercise it. The problem is based on the circumstance. As a society face to face time is every reason to become an introvert. We'll let loose on social media but when you're voice needs to really count we'll let other noisy people become our voice. Only to spend the rest of our lives hating the decisions that society put into play. Everything sounds like a pretty good idea and then we have to deal with it. Mark Twain put in his autobiography, "Don't let someone change your accent." Meaning your voice as a writer, creative soul or activated member of the everyday world. Use your voice to make a difference or indifference. Turn your voice back into the tool it was meant to be. I'd love to stand outside a voting booth and listen to those walking away. I'd love to hear their points of view as to why they voted the way they did. That's mind blowing conversation! One problem, voting is like using the restroom when the door is closed it's none of your business. And yet if I follow you in the bathroom and you left a scent that makes me gag I have to live with it. Voting is no different. If you chose to make the vote let it be known. Use your voice. Your words. You aren't as inward and private as you think.
