Please join me for the fifth episode in the Conversations with Alan series in The Locher Room to meet a group of individuals working to spread the message of 3GNY. 3GNY is an educational non-profit organization founded by the third generation: grandchildren of Holocaust survivors. 3GNY’s mission is to keep the history of the Holocaust alive. Through their WEDU program, 3GNY trains grandchildren of survivors to share their family story in school classrooms. They must ensure that others understand the human face of the Holocaust, as well as its details, its place in Jewish history and how it is viewed and discussed today. They are the last living link to survivors. It is primarily through them that future generations will hear the actual stories of their grandparents’ survival. All of these individuals feel a deep commitment to know and tell these stories, and to place them within the greater context of the Holocaust. 3GNY also raises awareness about human rights issues and genocide – past and present.

To accomplish this, 3GNY creates forums where members meet, learn, connect and share ideas. Founded in 2005 with a group of six, 3GNY’s membership now exceeds 4000. 3GNY organizes diverse programming, including museum tours, film screenings, theatre engagements, discussion groups, book readings, visits and dialogue with survivors, Shabbat dinners, Jewish cultural events, intergenerational gatherings, genealogy workshops and field trips.

David Wachs, President of 3GNY, along with Sharon Cooper, Farah Kraus and Josef Szende will join me live to share the stories of their grandparents survival, to share WEDU classroom experiences and to share ways in which we can all help to make sure atrocities like the Holocaust never happen again. Just like me, these four individuals are the descendants of not one, but two Holocaust survivors.
