Community Function Session, Mystical Community Living Retreat with Jiska and Friends
The session discusses the importance of function in community living and its role in bringing people together, undoing the ego, and finding connection. Many people are surprised to learn that a monastery is not a place for prayer, meditation, or contemplation but rather for letting go of personal responsibility, focusing on prayer, listening to guidance, and communication.
The community is highly guided, and everyone desires to be truly helpful. The community is highly individualized, so it requires trust and understanding. Community members share their experiences of coming to the monastery and the urge to be undone. They share their own experience of being given a function, which can lead to pride and ego issues, and an appreciation is expressed of how Spirit can use a move from the comfort of a leadership position to a follower position to undo pride and ego.
