"Christmas Tide" is a celebratory poem that champions the warmth of winter over the beauty of spring, summer, and autumn. Through vivid images of blazing wood-fires, mistletoe, holly berries, and sparkling wine, the speaker makes a passionate case that no season rivals Christmas for joy and human connection. The poem builds toward a final plea: that the season's warmth and plenty must reach the poor and humble, not just those gathered in grand halls.
