Charles Babbage (1791-1871) was an English mathematician, philosopher, inventor, and mechanical engineer, best known for conceptualizing the first mechanical computer. His work laid the groundwork for future developments in computing, earning him the title "The Father of Computing."Early Life and EducationBorn in London on December 26, 1791, Babbage came from a wealthy family. He attended several schools, showing an early aptitude for mathematics. In 1810, he entered Trinity College, Cambridge, where he became frustrated with the quality of the mathematics education. Dissatisfied with the limited knowledge of his professors, he decided to take matters into his own hands. Along with his friends, including the famous mathematician John Herschel, Babbage co-founded the Analytical Society in 1812, with the goal of advancing the study of calculus and mathematics in England.
