Brian interviews three Ukrainian Refugees about their experience since the Russian invasion.

📌 Maryna Rudnytskykh, is an expert on penitentiary issues in Ukraine Funded by Global Affairs Canada. Before the war, she worked for the Ministry of Justice implementing penitentiary reforms. “ When the war started, I was in Kyiv with my husband and cat. on the second day of the Russian invasion, we left our home and settled in the West of Ukraine, where we now live for over a month. I want to describe the realities of the war: cities under siege (Chernihiv and Mariupol), the work of volunteers - how Ukrainians find their place in this war, separation from family and friends, and where I look for the light in the dark and things that support me”.

📌 Liudmyla Tiurnikova, is a product manager for a Tech company. “I was in Kyiv when the war started. On the second day I went to the western part of Ukraine with my mom and brother. 2 weeks ago I came to Berlin with my mom and a dog. I continue working remotely for my company and staying in Germany as a tourist. I hope to come back home soon”.

📌 Anastasia Matvieieva, PhD in law, senior researcher, associate professor of the Law department at the Zhukovsky National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute". She also works part-time as an associate professor at the Semen Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics. “Unfortunately, all my plans and my whole life changed radically on February 24, 2022, when Ukraine was attacked by Russia. And instead of the usual life, I had to get together quickly, pick up my child and my friend's children, and leave. It should be noted that I lived in Kharkiv, in the Saltivka district, where serious bombings are still taking place. Most of the Northern Saltovka was destroyed.
