Before the pandemic, Providence’s research on an mRNA vaccine for cancer showed promising results. But as the virus took hold, it was clear we lacked domestic supply and had to rely on foreign markets. So Providence switched its focus to applying mRNA research to the coronavirus. To move forward though, the company needed cash. Ottawa has allocated millions to kick start domestic vaccine manufacturing. Providence applied hoping for a favorable response. So far that hasn’t happened.
