In this episode we continue studying the book of Numbers. In this episode God told Moses and Aaron to take the sum of the sons of Kohath, Gershon and Merari. Then they were given detailed work assignments.

After they received their assignments, God told Moses and Aaron not to cut off the tribes of their families.

That if they wanted to live and not die, when they approached the most holy things, that Aaron and his sons were to go in with them and appoint every man his service or burden. The men were warned not to go in to see or look upon the holy things that were covered, lest they die.

We note that Christ has given each person an assigned position and job to do.

These positions were appointed to them while in their mother’s womb.

Jeremiah was appointed to be a prophet while in his mother’s womb. John the Baptist was a preacher and a prophet, anointed and filled with the Holy Spirit while in his mother’s womb. Even Paul said, he was called from the womb.

Yet, although the position may be appointed while in the womb a person may not be called to start working until a much later date, time or season, in our text the Levites are called or numbered between the ages of 30 and 50 years old.

Once they reached a certain age, they were called to service. They were given their assignments and warned not to go beyond their prescribed duties.

They were told not to go looking into things that did not pertain to them. They had their jobs, they were to know their place and stay in it.

We note that Christ’s church was not meant to be run like the world’s corporations, where pride or selfish ambition causes a person to seek jobs, positions and assignments.

Paul warned the overly ambition ones in Corinth that there should be no schisms in the body of Christ.

Everyone wasn’t called to be an apostle, everyone wasn’t called to be a prophet, or a teacher.

They weren’t supposed to be seeking honor and praise by occupying certain offices in the church or manifesting miracles or delivering dynamic prophecies.

He told them to seek the more excellent way, which was charity, another word for love.

There was no need to seek an office or position just to rule over others, they needed to love others and rule over themselves; Learning how to be kind and patient, learning how to walk in the spirit and not after the flesh

In the book of Romans he told them they were to occupy their offices, fulfill their ministerial duties with a sober mind and not to be too full of themselves.

They shouldn’t think more highly of themselves than they ought to. Because they were all working for the same person. They were all on the same team. They were all a part of the body of Christ.

Here’s the text:

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Romans 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

Romans 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Romans 12:7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Romans 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
