In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode, Jacob calls his sons to his side because he is about to die. He calls them to tell them what will happen to them in the future.

He says, Reuben will not excel because he is unstable as water.

The AHLB says, unstable as water refers to reckless behavior as water flows in any direction.

Because of his tendency to be reckless he would not excel.

He divided Levi and Simeon, he said they were brethren. They were like to peas in a pod, where you saw one, you saw the other. They had the same identical temper but he would separate them so they couldn't wreak havoc together.

Judah is compared to a young lion and an old lion. Young lions are quick, fierce and fearless and old lions like to rest, and if they are forced to rise out of their restful state they arise with fierce wrath.

He also said, Judah will not fail to have a lawgiver between his feet until Shiloh comes, Shiloh means tranquility and is a picture of Christ.

After he finished blessing his sons although some of it didn't sound like a blessing he died. I suppose it's a blessing because none of them were disinherited. No one was disowned or dishinherited, they will all receive land, after they leave Egypt.

The final verse said, Jacob gathered up his feet into the bed and yielded up the ghost and was gathered to his people.

The ghost, the spirit or the soul of Jacob left its temporary dwelling place to go to be with his father's.

Our bodies are often referred to as tents or tabernacles. It is seen as a temporary dwelling place that the ghost, or spirit of the person, lives in.

And when a person dies, the ghost that lived inside the tent goes to be with the Lord.

The tent is taken down or removed from its location on earth.

Peter mentions putting off or putting away his tabernacle in 2 Peter chapter 1 verses 10 through 15.

2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

2 Peter 1:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

2 Peter 1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

2 Peter 1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

2 Peter 1:15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
