In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode Jacob and Esau meet face to face after 20 years. Jacob feared the meeting could bring death and destruction but it was a meeting that brought warm embraces, kisses and tears.

Jacob approached Esau in humility. He bowed before him and called him Lord.
He called Esau lord because Esau had become a prince in the land of Seir. He was in the process of taking the land by the sword from the Horites. A land God had given him.

God told Rachel she had two nations in her womb, one would be greater than the other. And at that moment, it appears that Esau was greater than Jacob. Esau was a lord.

He basically had his own country and armed men and Jacob was only named a prince the night before, he had no country, yet.

Perhaps, God wanted him to know, that he too was a prince, although at the time he had no country.

Perhaps, He didn’t want him to be alarmed by Esau’s success, he was a prince and would indeed become a great nation.

Sometimes God’s chosen’s ones are the last to be blessed or receive a visible manifestation of God’s promises.

Yes, Jacob was a prince, but he would not live long enough to see his descendant’s inherit the land. He would die in Egypt.

God’s promises are eternal, he was a prince, but he didn’t rule a country while he lived.
In Genesis chapter 32 verse 26, Jacob was told he was a prince because he had power with God.

And it was because of his power with God that Jospeh was sent as an ambassador to Egypt disguised as slave, and at the appointed time he would arise and become ruler over all Egypt, to save the entire world from a famine. Isaac had blessed Jacob with corn while Joseph was still in his loins.

It was the blessing of “corn” that would save Jacob and the rest of the world from a famine.

Here’s the text:

Genesis 41:56  And the famine was over all the face of the earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

Genesis 41:57  And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

Both, Jacob and Esau were blessed with the fatness of the earth and the dew of heaven. Both became nations, but only one, had power with God. Only, one would be used to save the world from famine.

So while many may be like Esau, having a country, having much wealth and armed men to do their bidding.

There are some who are like Jacob, and according to the world’s standards, they are without country but one thing they do have is power with God and God on their behalf will save a family, save city, or save a nation because they are priestly ambassadors, offering up prayers and intercessions for the land.
