mostra di piùPeter starts referring to the prophecy of Joel and how these things were foretold. That in the last days God’s Spirit would pour out on all flesh and that young men would prophesy and have visions and old men shall dream dreams (verses 13-24). Then Peter goes on to talk about David and his prophecy and all he had said of God. For David spoke of how God would not allow his people to see corruption nor would he allow eternal woe to come upon them, but that he would make a way for his people (verses 25-36). The holy men hear Peter’s words and become pricked in their hearts and want to know what they must do to obtain this salvation of which Peter speaks. Verse 38 is what we must do in order to be saved from the corruption of death, hell, and the grave. By these words three thousand more souls were added to the kingdom by receiving the baptism. And they continued from that day on in the apostle’s doctrine in breaking of bread and in prayer.
The Fellowship of the believers
Verses 43-47 are clear illustrations of the unity they had, in that they souls that were added sold all that they had and came together and divided up their possessions so that every man had what he needed and they went to from house to house fellowshipping and eating together and praising God. This is admirable and certainly a beautiful display of unity, at the same time clearly everyone did not sell all their belongings if they were eating at various homes. Furthermore it is important to note that they had no problem selling their belongings and coming together because they expected Jesus to return soon to take them up with him.
