Aretha Franklin witnessed a lot and experienced a lot at a young age. There was trauma after trauma with no healing that impacted her greatly in her adulthood. After enduring divorced parents, mother dying, being raped, and an abusive, controlling father, she became self-destruction in her adult years. She was promiscuous, an alcoholic and suffered domestic violence in her marriage.

Aretha’s singing career was first controlled by her father and then her husband. Although, she found some fame and fortune it wasn’t until she recorded Amazing Grace that was her best selling album and is still her best-selling album to this day.

Despite her past, Aretha was able to find her voice and become the boss of her life.
