The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of our country reads: “…one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Yet we continue to experience injustice for many people in our nation and across the world. How can we live up to those words and become the Nation we profess to be?
Today as we honor and celebrate this man and his legacy, we need to ask a few questions. How do we, in 2023, look at his legacy and the issues he addressed over 50 years ago. Have we made any progress? Are things better, or about the same, or even worse than they were during King’s lifetime of activism? How much progress has been made? Has Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream come true yet?
