Within a peer advisory group, the primary goal is to bring out the group’s “genius.” Collaborative learning draws out the insight and wisdom of each individual participant, resulting in a mix of ideas that benefits the whole. Adult learning theory tells us that adults prefer to define for themselves what and when to learn, a concept called “just-in-time learning.” In this type of learning, the learner decides for his or herself what skills and knowledge he or she needs to strengthen and when they need to accomplish it.
