Puya Abolfathi is a biomedical engineer with a PhD, the CEO of a startup and a speaker and technology communicator passionate about human-machine interfaces including exoskeleton and immersive mediums like VR and AR.

His background includes working all over the globe on the world’s only flying eye hospital, designing research tools for investigating how human reflexes work, and creating a wearable exoskeleton for the function and rehabilitation of paralyzed and damaged hands. For this endeavor, he won the Australian Eureka Prize for Inspiring Science in 2004 and the National Disability Award for Excellence in Technology from the Prime Minister of Australia in 2016.

As a kid, his biggest dream was to one day become an inventor. With over 20 years experience in designing technology for the medical, research and consumer industry, Puya has a knack for tackling problems that can be solved by rethinking and combining today's available, tried and tested technologies.

Puya's specialties are human-machine interfaces, particularly in the area of haptics and actuation within exoskeletons, instrumentation, smart materials, algorithms and rapid development of prototypes and proofs of concept. But more than anything, he takes pride in being a father of his two girls who inspire him in dreaming big and believing in people’s power to make a change.
