Le chiese cattoliche all'esterno a volte sono molto semplici ed essenziali, ma all'interno trasudano di cristi morenti, madonne dolorant, statue, affreschi ori eccetera, mentre le chiese protestanti fuori sono spesso piene di ghirigori e sculture e torrette ma dentro sono vuote, nemmeno un singolo quadro, modello iconoclasta. Avrà a che fare con le diverse filosifie di vita? Mi ricorda quella divertentissima Bustina di Minerva di Umberto Eco dove paragonava IBM e MAC alle due religioni.

Ora, col tempo, ho visitato molte chiese, e mi sono chiesta ma come mai questa differenza? Come mai certe chiese nei paesi del nord hanno tutta questa opulenza, ghirigori, destra e sinistra e tutte le figure che si arrampicano eccetera, i vetri colorati, bello, però poi entri dentro non c'è neanche un quadro appeso, sembrano quasi dei posti da iconoclasti. E invece le chiese cattoliche spesso fuori, penso le chiese romaniche, io non è che ne capisca molto di architettura però ho presente le chiese romaniche che sono molto squadrate, molto diciamo essenziali dal di fuori, poi entri dentro BANG! e ti si spalanca un mondo appunto, pieno di ventimila madonne, di cristi morenti, e poi gli affreschi, soprattutto gli affreschi, tu tiri su lo sguardo e vieni travolto da questi angeli, i putti, tutte le cose, poi tutto così plastico, così cinematografico.

That was the first time I realised that Protestant, Lutheran churches are different from Catholic churches. Now, over time, I visited many churches, and I wondered but how comes this difference? How comes that certain churches in northern countries have all this opulence, squiggles, left and right and all the figures climbing etc., the stained glass, nice, but then you go inside there's not even a picture hanging, they almost look like iconoclastic places.
