Il mondo dei podcast è vario e variegato, ma la stragrande maggioranza dei podcast viene prodotto in lingua inglese, anche da podcaster non di lingua inglese (me inclusa). L'egemonia linguistica riflette quella politica ed economica. Ecco perché produrre podcast in lingue diverese dall'inglese è prima di tutto un atto politico. Il 60% dei podcast prodotti nel mondo sono prodotti in lingua inglese, e questo non dovrebbe sorprendere nessuno che si sia mai addentrato nel mondo del podcast, perché quasi tutto viene prodotto in inglese.

La cosa diventa un po più sorprendente, o comunque interessante,vale la pena rifletterci, quando poi si vanno a cercare le percentuali delle lingue parlate nel mondo, perché se i podcast in inglese sono il 60% di tutta la produzione di podcast, poi andiamo a vedere le persone che parlano inglese come lingua madre sono circa 360 milioni, se a queste aggiungiamo quell'altro miliardo, più o meno, di persone che parlano inglese non come lingua madre, arriviamo a circa un miliardo e 300 milioni di persone che rappresentano il 20% della popolazione mondiale.

Quindi il 20% della popolazione capisce parla l'inglese, però il 60% dei podcast sono fatti in lingua inglese. E io sono anche colpevole perché anch'io spesso, anzi la stragrande maggioranza delle mie cose, a parte questi 3 minuti grezzi - che comunque anch'io traduco in inglese - vengono fatti in inglese perché? Appunto perché le altre lingue hanno una fetta di audience così ristretta, e va be l'italiano ci sta perché l'italiano si parla in Italia e poi gli italiani di seconda generazione gli italiani sparsi per il mondo, e non stiamo sicuramente parlando di miliardi, però una popolazione come quella indiana, che ha superato per numero anche di abitanti anche la popolazione cinese, ha dei numeri minuscoli 1,8% di tutti i podcast vengono fatti usano le lingue indiane, ora non so quale lingua abbiano usato per fare questo calcolo, però le lingue che vengono parlate in India.

Questi dati sono un po'... scoraggiano un minimo perché le lingue... C'è una diversità di lingue incredibili, nel mondo esistono più di 7000 lingue parlate e queste lingue però rappresentano appena il 10% di tutta la produzione di podcast, mentre il 90% di tutti i podcast nel mondo vengono fatti in 8 lingue, e avete già visto qual è la lingua principale che si usa per fare i podcast?

Io sono per la diversità, infatti mi fregio del mio forte accento italiano o accento comunque straniero quando parlo l'inglese, perché anche quando la gente parla l'inglese, anche loro hanno i loro accenti, solo che sono abituati a sentirli, per cui non li percepiscono come accento. E comunque il mondo è fatto di diversità e di accenti, ed è giusto rappresentare la realtà con tutte le sue sfaccettature.
