IN THIS EPISODE~ Fresh from the Malcolm Blunt Archives~recently completed & unveiled for all of us by Bart Kamp~ we have a nice, neat cache of documents regarding Dealey Plaza Witness Julia Ann Mercer, who claimed to have seen -on the morning of the Assassination- a man remove a rifle from the bed of a pickup truck parked suspiciously in Dealey Plaza shortly before The Hit. Behind the wheel of this pickup truck? According to Mrs. Mercer, none other than Jack Ruby.
We will examine her 11/63 statements to both The Dallas County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, her sworn affidavit to New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, and other Primary Resource Documentation from other sources that seem to corroborate the presence of a pickup truck in Dealey Plaza. Then we'll analyze the evidence in an effort to determine for ourselves whether she saw what she said she saw, and whether what she DID see was actually what she THINKS it was.

Also, most of the walk up the hill by the man carrying the rifle would have been blocked to the view of the cops on the next overpass by the billboard. He would have to walk only a short distance where they could see him, and the cops had other things to look at, too.

I doubt her id of Ruby, but I do not doubt her rifle case, as reported in her affidavit. That statement was taken on the day of the assassination. She saw the man bring the rifle case up the side ot the hill towrds the overpass. The throat shot came from the overpass. She couldn't have been that lucky so as to guess on day one.

Also available on the DPD radio recording of Channel 1, you can see that Murphy called in about this incident, at first asking for a tow truck, and then calling it off.

But Officer Murphey was one of the three cops on the next overpass. It was his motorcycle that Mercer saw and Murphy took one of the men to the bank building on his three-wheel motorcycle, but he did not bring the other man back; the other man came back with the other truck. So, Murphy probably had alreay returned to the next overpass by the time that Mercer came by, since she saw all three of them and the motorcycle. But, apparently, the third man had not yet returned with the other truck.

The FBI investigation was fake. Officer Joe Murphy told the FBI where the truck had come from, the First National Bank Building construction project, but nothing indicates that the FBI ever inquired there.
