Amy and Jason answer a listener's question about how to give feedback about nervous laughter. As you may have noticed, we like to laugh on this podcast when we think something is funny. But, did you know that a lot of laughter doesn’t have anything to do with hilarity? In fact, in the absence of an underlying medical condition, laughing is often a stress response — a way for people to regulate their emotions and avoid being overcome with anxiety.

No, I'm not a manager; thanks for asking. But I do listen to your podcast. At least until Google blows away another product (Google Podcasts) and I have to find it for free somewhere else.
Yes my laughter isn't always about something being funny. Most of the time it's anxiety and I don't even know that I'm doing it. Yes it's held back my career. I really hate people that can't accept things like this because I'm in my earily 40s and I'm aware of it, but I've never been able to do anything to stop it. People just have to get used to it. The people that do, get me and all that I am. The people that don't, well the hell with them, cause that's usually what they do with me anyway; what's the point? Besides, in-person communication is overrated anyway; it's bad for the environment (at least in the USA where things have been layed out to benefit car companies) and imprecise (since you can't think and re-read before your write), but business has no time for this, business is all about making money as fast as possible and the hell with everything else;
Am I correct? As managers this is your chance to defend yourselfs.
