Ro: Ioan pășea cu grijă pe podeaua de dale reci ale vechii bucătării a școlii.
En: John stepped carefully on the cold tiled floor of the school's old kitchen.

Ro: Era o vară caldă, iar soarele trimitea raze aurii prin ferestrele înguste de deasupra.
En: It was a warm summer, and the sun sent golden rays through the narrow windows above.

Ro: Bubuitul greilor de la sfârșitul lumii se amesteca cu zgomotul galoșilor lui Ioan.
En: The rumble of world-ending events mingled with the noise of John’s galoshes.

Ro: Ioan își dorea să mănânce sarmale, așa cum doar bunica lui le știa face.
En: John longed to eat stuffed cabbage rolls, just like the ones his grandmother made.
